Understanding Meta tags: Definition, meta tag analysis of a webpage of choice and description of each meta tag
What are meta-tags?
According to (Ali Mohammadi, D.,2003) meta-tags are concealed, unseen HTML tags that may give website owners and authors a degree of control over how a Web page is operated.
The word "meta" in "meta-tag" is derived from the word "metadata", which means data about other data. That means it is data about other data, also known as the Web page. For instance, a meta-tag might give details about the Web page's contents.
Multiple meta-tags can be found on any Web page. One of the easiest methods to arrange metadata is HTML.
Where they should be placed?
Meta-tags should always be positioned at the top “head” of the HTML document, right after the <TITLE> element, in the middle of the actual <HEAD> tags, and before the <BODY> tags. Although meta-tags are not visible in the Web page display, they can still be read and used by search engines or the user’s browser program.

meta tag analysis of a webpage :
The web page that I decided to analyse is the ASOS website.
Now I will click on the right side of my mouse and choose the "inspect" button. After that a page with all the meta-tags that are used is going to appear.
After scanning the page for some time, I found the meta-tag that I was looking for.
Now if you search "online shopping for the latest clothes and fashion" the website ASOS should appear as one of the results.
